The Apple Mac Mini M2: My first Apple system in fourteen years

I saw that there was a pretty decent sale going on at the local store for the new base-model 2023 Apple Mac Mini M2 (MMFJ3LL/A) and since I’ve heard a lot of good things about the new M-series Apple computers I decided to pick one up while it was relatively cheap.

I’ve owned multiple Mac Minis, but this will be the first brand new Apple computer that I’ve owned in fourteen years. My previous one was the late 2009 Mac Mini (MC239LL/A A1283) powered by a Intel 2 Duo, which itself was also the base-model system of its time.

As it is the base-model M2 system, it only comes with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. I did briefly consider upgrading them due to that, but price-wise it just was not worth it to me and honestly the system specifications are more than suited for what I intend to use the system for.

I also purchased a Apple Magic Trackpad (MK2D3AM/A) to go along with it and I paired one of my random mechanical keyboards with it for the time being.

Setting it up was extremely simple as to be expected and I immediately got to work installing software on it with iTerm2, an open source macOS Terminal replacement, being one of the very first things that I installed and Homebrew, an open source package manager, being added immediately after.

Overall, it’s a very nice compact and powerful system for its size and I might make a post in the future detailing the other bits of software that I decide to put on it as well.
