I decided to buy a Gaming Laptop. Meet my HP Pavilion 16-a0032dx
As my Linux desktop is starting to show its age these days I decided it was time to buy new computer so that I could play both things at a higher FPS rate and things that didn’t run well under Wine-staging.
I wanted to get a laptop this time so that I had the option of bringing my computer with me if I had the need to do so, so after some searching I ended up picking the HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop - 16-a0032dx.
It’s a nice sleek black laptop with green accents on the around the keys and logo which should fit my needs perfectly for the next few years.
Here are the specifications it has:
- Windows 10
- 16.1” 1920x1080 LED Screen
- Intel Core i5-10300H 2.5GHz (4.5GHz boosted)
- 8GB DDR4 Memory
- 512GB Intel M.2 SSD
- Integrated Intel UHD Graphics card (Comet Lake-H GT2)
- Dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Graphics card
- Backlit keyboard
- Battery life up to 10.5 hours
I have already purchased a 16GB RAM upgrade kit for it as well as a secondary 1TB SSD for additional internal storage.
This is my first HP computer and so I’m not sure just how long it will be supported, so I also tested the Linux support for it and absolutely everything worked flawlessly for me which I was really pleased about. This gives me the option of switching the operating system to Arch Linux later in its lifetime should I feel like doing so.
